Increasing Your Motivation

Motivation’s arch enemy is procrastination.

How much more could you achieve if being motivated came naturally and you didn’t even have to think about it?

To move from procrastination to motivation we need to first understand why you are procrastination and what type of procrastination you find yourself in. Defining the different types of procrastination, we can narrow them down in to four categories.

·      Anxious procrastination

·      Fun procrastination

·      “Plenty of time” procrastination

·      Perfectionist procrastination

The only difference between success and failure is the ability to take action.
— Alexander Graham Bell

Neil Fiore, author of The Now Habit, defined procrastination as “a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision.”

The fun procrastinator would rather be doing anything than that one dreaded task. They will find as many fun ways as possible to avoid what they actually need to do.

The plenty of time procrastinator will put things off because they have ample time to complete the task they need to do. By creating urgency, breaking down tasks into their component parts and setting multiple deadlines for each part we can create movement, momentum and ultimately move you from procrastination to motivation.

The perfectionist procrastinator finds themselves constantly making tweaks and improvements. They are always striving for the best, rather than asking themselves “When is good enough, good enough?” They are critical of their work and fear failure. The fear of failing can be so overwhelming, that they struggle to even get started.

There are many ways to increase motivation. However, what works for one person will not work for everyone, so it is essential that we create strategies and put in place new behaviours that work for you. Working together we can empower you to move seamlessly from procrastination to motivation.

Once we identify what you believe is holding you back, we are able to create strategies to propel you forward. We can reframe these limiting beliefs and create a new way of doing things.

When we adopt a different mindset, a growth mindset, we can install new behaviours so that procrastination is no longer an option. We can create a fire, a burning desire to get started and motivate you to reach your potential.
