Lesson 34 -

Time management is life management.

Does the day simply not have enough hours in it?

A ‘never give up’ attitude may pay off on occasion. Yet, there are times when you need to recognise the difference between when to persevere because of what you could achieve and when you are putting in the effort for something that will never come to fruition.

It’s not always easy to know when it’s time to push on and when it’s time to call it a day. But without recognising the difference you could find yourself slipping into the trap of being ‘fools busy’.

Instead of exhausting yourself by throwing endless effort and resources into a problem, pause and assess whether it is in your best interest to continue.

Is what you are doing taking you closer to or further from your desired destination?

Are you moving forward or are you treading water? Does it make you happy? Is there an easier way? Are you adding value? Are you still motivated? Is there something else you could be doing that would be better use of your time?

Armed with this knowledge you can decide what you need to do, ditch, delegate or defer. There’s no big secret to effective time management. It involves making decisions about what to act on now, later or even never.

Lesson 34: Time management is life management.
