Lesson 32 -
Get busy living or get busy dying.
We have all the time in the world, or do we?
From the moment we are born we have an expiration date. We can take every possible action to mitigate risks, to extend our lives for as long as possible but we never really know what is around the next corner.
So why are you wasting time? Many people waste time. But if you were told today that you had only 6 months to live, what would you do?
Youth is a really great thing, sadly it is often once we are long past our youth that we recognise it. When we are young, we have all of the time in the world, many have what I consider a deferral attitude, “Give me financial discipline, but not just yet”, “I will take that trip, but not until I am older”, “I take up that hobby once I am 30/40/50...”
The problem with a deferral attitude is, what if tomorrow, next week, or next year never comes? Money can buy many things, but it cannot buy back time.
One of my favourite films is Shawshank Redemption and today’s lesson comes courtesy of the central character Andy Dusfrene, “Get Busy Living, or Get Busy Dying”. Don’t let your clock run down without experiencing the joy from fulfilling your hopes and dreams.
