Lesson 17 -
Never be a prisoner of your past, it was just a lesson not a life sentence.
We all have a back story, it has shaped us, but does it define who we will become.
Our experiences, good and bad, can be used to great effect. We have a choice; we can use them to propel us forward, inspiring us to be better, or we can allow them to imprison us, keeping us rooted to the spot.
Nothing in life is certain. Our future is not yet written, we determine where our story goes. We grow when we learn from our mistakes, finding out what works and what doesn’t. Everything we go through is a lesson from which we gain new depths of knowledge and wisdom.
Life throws us curveballs, we get knocked down, we experience the pain of anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt. What matters is what we do next. If we fall nine times, we get up ten.
We don’t know what will happen in the future, but we know what’s happened in the past. Remember that the past is history, they do things differently there. Every experience we have gone through, both good and bad has shaped us, providing us with a unique opportunity to be better tomorrow than we are today.
So, my 17th lesson is to never be a prisoner of your past, it was just a lesson not a life sentence.
