Lesson 1 -
This Too Shall Pass
As the countdown until I enter the last year of my 30’s is fast approaching, it’s an apt time to consider the lessons I’ve learnt. Over the next 39 days I’ll be sharing with you my 39 lessons at 39.
At 30, an accident changed the course of my life. The years following would bring births, deaths, the loss of a career, untold obstacles and finding a new purpose. Each provided me with valuable lessons.
In times of hardship, lost loved ones, jobs, opportunities and experiences, the proverb “This too shall pass” can be difficult to accept. There are times when we are thrust into situations of which we have no control. Yet, we have the ability to control how we respond. The situations we face don’t determine how we respond, our beliefs about the situation do.
Enduring is an essential part of life, to have hope and belief in our power to overcome, whilst accepting we don’t have the power to control all outcomes. It’s human nature to worry, but to worry about a situation of which we have no control is like paying interest on money never borrowed.
It is time we stopped beating ourselves up recognise that this too shall pass. The challenges you and I face today will be the making of us tomorrow.
